Two esteemed milliners and writers from The Hat Magazine - Lauren Richie (https://laurenjritchie.com/) and Denise Innes-Spencer - join forces from across the globe to bring you this bumper 2-day wired and blocked halo class.
Through this unique collaboration, Lauren and Denise bring their own unique skills and experiences together to teach you everything you need to know about making blocked and wired crowns. You will learn how to create a classic halo or tiara shape from wire and how to use blocking materials.
As well as teaching the essential skills, you will learn tips and secrets from international experts so you can explore how to create unique shapes with height and freeform designs that are light and easy to wear.
You will learn a range of covering skills and finishing techniques using tulle materials, and tubular materials alongside creating a playful eye mask piece to take your designs to the next level You will learn how to shape crinoline materials and explore how to add wire structures to a blocked shape to create a dramatic trim.
This international collaboration is a unique experience had never been done before. You will benefit from having two tutors with experience from two continents – an ideal opportunity to double your skills and double your crown ideas and design development. This two-day course is perfect for an advanced beginner or intermediate/advanced student looking to take the next step in construction techniques.

Biography of your International teacher's
Lauren started her millinery career learning from some of the industry greats including Louise Macdonald, Paris Kyne, Serena Lindeman and Edwina Ibbotson! She now designs and creates for her label from a stunning studio in the Manchester Unity Building in the heart of Melbourne.
As a trained teacher Lauren enjoys teaching and mentoring students to explore the industry and further their skills. Lauren is a leader in the millinery industry as an editor and content creator for The Hat Magazine, head of content for Millinery.Info and past President of Millinery Australia. With a worldwide reputation, in 2023 Lauren taught for the Spanish Hat Association at their prestigious ‘Spanish Hat Week’.
Her work has been awarded Top 10 Finalist in the Millinery Australia Design Award two years running, a finalist in the 2023 Myer Lillian Frank Millinery Award and awarded second place in the Dutch Hat Association Competition. Her pieces have been worn by the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC, Lord Mayor Sally Capp, VRC Ambassador Crystal Kimber, Illustrator Alexandra Nea along with Olivia Molly Rodgers, Gemma Owen, Michelle Payne and Caty Price during Spring Carnival.
Denise, a student of the famous Rose Cory millinery training. Denise is a qualified teacher, Batchelor of Education with honours. An expert in making wired headdresses, having created pieces for top bridalwear designers Suzanne Neville and Jayne Boulton. She has worked for Liberty’s sewing school, running the first millinery classes at the school.

A regular staff writer for ‘The Hat Magazine’. She is creative director and founder of The British School of Millinery and recently co-founded of The British Millinery Association.
Denise regularly teaches overseas and here in the UK, including London Hat Week 2022 since its concept, NVH Dutch Hat week 2019 and 2022 and Spanish Hat Association, Spanish Hat Week 2023.
Denise has also written, developed qualifications for the millinery industry.
A respected millinery teacher, she also has taught and still teaches at the UK’s top fashion and costume universities including Liverpool John Moores University teaching on the fashion course, University of Westminster Teaching on the fashion course, Middlesex University teaching on the performing arts course and the famous Paul Macartney LIPA school of performing arts teaching on the MA costume course. She has been Highly Commended for her work on traditional millinery methods by the Heritage Crafts Association
