Learn Millinery: Sewing Machine Bootcamp for Milliners and Hatmakers

This class is designed for milliners and hat makers who would like to incorporate a sewing machine into the creation of headpieces and hats. It is suitable for those with little to no prior experience using a sewing machine.

This hands-on session will introduce the fundamentals of sewing, including how to operate a sewing machine, essential seams and stitches, and practical techniques that can be applied to your millinery production.

In this class, you will learn how to:

  • Set up and thread a sewing machine
  • Understand basic sewing terminology and tools
  • Sew essential stitches, including straight stitch and zigzag
  • Construct seams and finish edges
  • Explore where and how a sewing machine can be used in millinery practice

What You Will Create:

You will produce a series of samples demonstrating different sewing techniques. Please note that this is a skills-based class and you will not complete a finished project.

Who Should Attend:

This class is ideal for milliners and hat makers who are complete beginners, as well as those looking to refresh their sewing machine skills. No prior experience is required—just an interest in creating hats and headwear.
