Myer Millinery Award 2020 Fashions on Your Front Lawn
Each year Myer hosts the Millinery Award as part of the Cup Week hosted at Flemington Racecourse. This year due to restrictions in Victoria as a result of Corona Virus the competition was adapted for an online forum. Milliners were invited to submit an entry for the Fashions on Your Front Lawn competition.
I have been fortunate to spend time in the North East of Victoria this year. Following on the theme from my Taminick Spring Collection this piece looked to be an extension of this work. My aim was to create a vibrant and sharp piece that would contrast against the bush landscape.
My entry was titled Caesia, it was inspired by the blue tones of the Gum Trees and the sharp points of the leaves. The sound of the bush, the iconic cockatoos and kookaburras were the backdrop to this creation.
The piece is formed from a wire base that is then covered in tulle which is finished by hand to ensure a neat finish on the top edge. The sharp corners are cut once on the piece and the gradient edge forming a soft line to the geometric shape.
